This gun was where I learned I am no good at rewiring. The battery is in the buttstock, so if you want to replace the dinky little stock with a retractable stock (which I did) you need to figure out how to make a channel for the wiring, which emerges from the bottom half of the stock area, up into the new retractable stock. I didn't have the right tools or else the right skills. The story did not end well (suffice to say I'm a novice when it comes to the wiring part of an AEG), so I'll skip over to a general review.

This is a really neat concept, the only place I've seen a really short PDW M-4 without having to build your own via kit. The only problem as I foresaw was the half-size stock, which for someone with my build- and I'm 5'10", by no means above average- was going to be ridiculously short. And I was right, the butt didn't even reach to the inside of my elbow when holding this gun, which is why I ended up swapping it out for a JG-LE stock. (Well, at first I tried a crane stock, but that made this gun look really butt-heavy, in every sense of the phrase.) As I said above, the process did not go well. Lucky for me I'm a collector, not a shooter, so what I ended up with is a really sweet little number that is only about 18" long with stock collapsed- but I'll have to get a new wire set if I ever want it to fire again. I'm already speculating about getting another Stubby along with a full stock, which ought to solve my rewiring problem. However, it leads me to wonder why JG chose to go with the mini-stock concept in the first place.

The only other problem was that the front end screws on just a little too far, so that the front sight was canted off to the left about 10 degrees- easily fixed with a little readjusting and some Loc-tite.

Don't let any of this put you off, because this is a super little gun. Add an Aimpoint, a vertical foregrip and a midcap 30-rd-style magazine and it looks tougher than any M-4 I've ever owned or seen. Granted, in real life a 4" gas tube would probably never work, but that's why they call it airsoft.

Pros:
Solid build, nice weight, all-metal front end
Looks great
Great feeling pistol grip

Cons:
Dinky little stock needs replacing for anyone of average size
Needs minor adjusting to line up sights
Grip is for right-handers only
