I have a 2007 ICS PCR-97 M4 with a full stock, so I elected to write a review on the M16 which has more of a similar body construction to my gun. The stock can not hold a large 9.6V battery without modification like other brands, due to the split gearbox construction of the gun. I was able to modify the stock by removing several plastic cross braces inside the stock, and it now fits a 4000 mAH Elite 9.6V battery. This gun shoots very smoothly and the stock shimming is acceptable, but I recommend a re-shim as I do in all AEGs. Factory guns are manufactured the same way but the tolerances of the gearbox housing or the gears may not be exact every batch +- .02-.03mm, so a re-shim is never a bad idea. I absolutely love the split gearbox design, swapping springs to match field limits or to swap an O-Ring for improved compression has never been easier. Add that to the ICS patented gear disengagement side assist lever that releases the piston and saves your spring from long term compression, and you have an unmatched piece of engineering.
This gun is Marui compatible save for the hop-up unit, which is plastic and built to specific ICS specs, so modifications MUST be done before replacing with an aftermarket metal hop up unit. The stock plastic hop-up unit is not bad at all and many choose to just stay with it. I use a systema bucking with no fitment issues. I dropped in a 6.04mm TB barrel, Guarder Piston, Systema M120 (pulls with ease), Metal Spring Guide, and Aluminum Ball Bearing Piston Head, and still the ROF exceeds that of MPEG JG's, DBOY's, A&K's, etc. The motor is a high torque motor and will probably pull an M130, the 120 was not a problem.
The metal construction adds durability to the gun, though the hand guards are plastic and not as realistic due to the toy like gloss that other guns do not have.
I highly recommend the ICS M4/M16 series. These are absolutely phenomenal guns out of the box and are very easy to mod due to the two piece gearbox design.
High grade metal recievers
Olympic Arms Trades
Split gearbox design
Marui compatable, save for hop-up unit
High torque motor
Can hold large 9.6V if stock is modded
Forward assist is fully functioning
Handguards too glossy
Hop-up unit is plastic, not easily replaced
Like many of you hard core players out there I have seen a tun of m16's and they all have something to prove but this gun truely has it all. The ICS m16 is one of the nicest looking guns out there that you can buy and it works really well too, I have had mine for two years and its still going strong. One of the best things about this gun is the split gearbox design which makes it soo much easier to upgrade or fix your gearbox. The turbo 3000 motor is a good reliable motor and has a good ROF. Something that only ICS has is the functional forward assist button shich actually can un-jam your piston. I love this for out in the field. The only down side to this gun is the platic which is shiny and of bad quality but I here that they are comming out with better plastic soon.
-Very high quality
-Comes with 2 mags
-Awsome FPS, around 370 wich is perfect for games that wont let you play with more than 400
-Functional Forward assist
-A little expensive for some
-Some selecter switch problems but they were easily fixed
I won't lie I bought a 150$ sports line model of this gun that was on sale but I was accidentally shipped this 330$ full metal aluminum version it was honestly one of my luckiest moments I don't know whether to thank airsoft GI or ICS and I hope no one got in trouble for this goof up but thank you so much!!!! but also this makes my review bias as I got 60% off which is a ridiculously good price that very almost no one get. when I got I knew i would never need another gun. My cousin whose an officer in the army said it was exactly like the real m16 aside from the stocks plastic being slightly thinner than the real gun. I love this
Shoots very far and straight best with 25 gram bb more than 200 feet 230 if i had to guess
the fps is low enough to safe for most fields
great hop up
very durable aluminum body
large full stock for very large batteries
I almost never lose with this gun
the performance is unmatched by most every gun aside from an HPA 1000$ setup
Great for someones whose tall a little too big for most of my friends who find it cumbersome and heavy (like the real m16)
at the price of 330$ you would expect blow back but I find that to just add too much intricacy to an AEG
simplicity is better usually
the hand guard has cheap plastic feel
