It's not the greatest piece of wood ever, but it's very solid. It doesn't feel like it's brittle or going to snap. Whatever finish G&G puts on the wood makes it feel plastic again. I stripped mine down, sanded the weirdness off, and put a light coat of ebony stain on it to show off the grain. I let that dry over night, then I rubbed linseed oil on it to protect the stock. I wound up putting about 3 coats of the linseed oil on it, letting it dry for 24-48 hours between each coat.
Now people think my M14 is real. I manage an airsoft arena in Portland, OR, and I get to show this off to the local players that stop in, and even they are fooled.
Pros:
Looks great, balances weight (more weight in the back).
More sturdy than the ABS.
Will hold a large battery (despite what the ASGI ad says - I have a 9.6v 4500 mah pack in mine as I type this.)
Cons:
The finish on it is garbage. Refinishing it was a task of about $25, though.
It is a walnut stock like the advertisement says, but the first thing I noticed upon picking it up is that it is surprisingly light. Don't get me wrong, my soc. 16 was still heavier than with the abs stock. So far it hasn't snapped in half like a dry twig like the abs stock did which is a good thing. It also made my gun look so much more real; a few months after installing it I went to show it off to some friends and freaked out one of them who was in the national guard. I had to open the bolt cover to prove it was an airsoft rifle. Although, like asgi says, the battery compartment is very tight; at least mine was. I have to use batteries with shorter wires and put them in backwards which is not good on the wires. I am afraid to modify the compartment in case it reduces the structural integrity of the stock.
Pros:
Real wood
light
realistic
tough
Cons:
small battery compartment
plastic-like finish
I wish to echo the earlier comments. This stock is lightweight and solid. It fits my CA M14 like a champ. The factory finish leaves much to be desired. The stain is on the dark side, much darker than a typical linseed oil finish. It almost looks like imitation wood but it's real walnut under that stain. I plan to refinish the stock in a USGI finish. All in all much better than the ABS stock and a little lighter.
Pros:
Solid
Great fit out of the box
Cons:
Dark factory staining
Some rough edges on the inside (but easily curable)
