ARES has been a well known manufacturer pushing new and unique airsoft guns out in the market. The Octarms X Amoeba series features the ARES keymod hand guard, Amoeba stock and Amoeba pistol grip. This model is built with a metal receiver for a long lasting build that is not too heavy or too light. Additionally, there is a amplifier flash hider that boosts the sound of the airsoft gun to intimidate foes around you. The built in ECU ( Electronic Control Unit ) allows the user to program their specified firing modes with the ARES programming unit ( sold separately ). ARES has implemented a quick change spring system known as their Rapid Velocity Tuning System. This system makes is easier to adjust your FPS at the field with out too much hassle from taking out all your internal parts.

Bought this gun about 3 weeks ago and out of the box it was a major performer when. The EFCS it has makes every trigger pull smooth as ever. I decided to upgrade my motor and used it for about a week like that. Then yesterday I was shooting it and it all sort of came to a halt. I've been working on these things for a decade and decided to have a look inside my brand new ARES gearbox. Come to find the shim job was crap, and where my spur and bevel gear mesh I had lost a tooth off of the bevel and 3 teeth off the spur. The gears are very weak, I removed them and did a test where I took an A&K spur gear and my Ares gear and hit the teeth with a screwdriver hit by a hammer. I knocked 4 more teeth off the Ares gear. I hit the A&K gear even harder than I hit the Ares gear and all it did was ding it. Got it back together and working fine now, put the stock motor back in too. All in all the gun unmodified is solid, but those gears are just horrible and I probably wont buy another Ares because their gears are clearly cheap.
Pros:
Extremely solid construction
Shoots as advertised
Pretty light weight for full metal
EFCS makes it feel very nice
Has full metal piston with teeth
Cons:
Has bad hopup that does not accept flathops at all unless you modify it
Gears are weak and cheap
Has given me more problems then a 300 dollar gun should
Shim job is subpar
Compression was non existant I honestly don't know how it even shot
All in all too much money for the cheap internals they use. I had always thought Ares was a good reputable brand but I would suggest someone to buy a Krytac instead.
