The Echo1 M14 is a great m14, especially for the price. I do not recommend this gun for beginners, as it is very heavy and large. The M14 sights are similar to those of an M4/M16, where there are three little lines on the front sight, one that sticks straight up, and the other two curve left and right. The right curve broke off of mine on the first use (I am very gentle with my guns), which doesn't really affect anything with the gun, because you use the middle line to aim, but it still kind of looks bad.
This gun has a LARGE TYPE battery connector. This is not listed on the Airsoft GI page, and if I didn't order a smart charger too (comes with a small-large connector), well that would have been bad, because I only have a bunch of small type batteries. The battery compartment is very small, and it is very hard to fit the stock battery in there with all the chords, which is also why I use an intellect 8.4v 1600mah battery, which is very small. This gives me enough room to even fit a small-large connector in the stock without a problem. The ROF is very good for an 8.4v battery, there is no need to buy a 9.6v.
The orange tip is very small and easy to cover with electrical tape, or better just spray paint it. The safety works very well, and so does the selector switch for full/semi auto. Unlike the SOCOM model, this longer version does not include a scope rail. It comes with TWO high cap mags that hold about 430 bb's. When I ordered this gun I also ordered 10,000 TSD .28g bb's, which I DO NOT recommend for this gun, unless you upgrade the spring. After a 120 spring upgrade, .28s shoot nicely, but if you are just using the gun as stock, stick with .25g bb's for the best range and accuracy. With .25g bb's this gun is accurate up to about 180 feet (outranges most other airsoft guns, including the more expensive KWA's and Tokyo Marui's). My M14 chronoed at 350fps with .20 grams, and 315fps with .25 grams. After my 120 spring upgrade it chronoed at 376 with .25 grams. Echo 1 really made this an affordable gun for the budget player such as myself. I would recommend this gun to anyone who is going to take care of it and be able to hold the gun upright!
Accuracy (by far outranges the SOCOM model, due to the 509mm barrel)
Plastic wood looks absolutely amazing, by far better than the OD or BLACK.
Two high cap mags included.
Very easy to take the gun apart, all you need to do is pull of the trigger guard and the stock seperates from the gun itself.
Charging handle makes an amazing sound (but don't mess with it to much, I have read that they break easily).
Low stock FPS (350 with .20 grams, 315 with .25 grams).
Tight battery compartment.
Large type battery connector (con for me, I only have small type batteries).
Part of the front sight broke on my first day of use.
