Product Information:
NOTE: I am brand new to airsoft and this is my very first gun ever. The only knowledge I have up to me playing a 12 hour game today, and all the homework (About a months worth) I've done before my actual purchase. The package came with the ARX160 Competition Black airsoft gun, one high cap mag (300 rounds), one Ni-MH 2/3A1100mAh 8,4V battery, and a wall charger. This review is based on everything that came in this box and nothing more.
As soon as I opened the box I was instantly impressed, now that may be because i'm a newbie to airsoft and don't know any better, or maybe its because I've held the cheapy $12 ones sold at stores, but this felt very solid and I heard nothing rattle or move when I shook the gun (It seemed like a legit way to test its build quality). It doesn't feel too heavy (5lbs 6oz no battery or ammo) and the adjustable/foldable stock makes it fit perfectly for any situation I can think of. You wont be able to buy any aftermarket Stock for this as the one it has is permanent , but really with the adjustability, I cant see why you would want to.
The top and bottom rail are made out of what seems to be the same material as most of the gun build, with the side rails and a few other parts being made of steel so there is plenty of rail-estate but i'm told that the bottom rail is different than the top (The manual has the top and side rails labeled as Picatinny but not the bottom), tho I cant see a difference. The bottom rail has a removable hand grip should you want to put a grenade launcher or egro/stubby/angled grip for your personal preferences/playstyle but that's if its the same as the top rail. The top rail extends across the entire top of the body with folded iron sights (non removable from what i can tell) so that you can mount any type of sight you can think of. I'm thinking an RDS of some sort but I've seen one with an ACOG on it that seemed like a legit choice for his field build.
Now as i'm still new to airsoft, the internals seemed to have preformed exceptionally! It has a type 3 full metal gearbox(?), a 12" metal inner barrel with an outer barrel that seems to be made out of the same material the gun is made of and a fully adjustable wheel hop up which was really nice for me as it helped me get some hands on with adjustment and how it works, tho I think this is how they all work :) The latch that opens the hop up area is set up to be ambidextrous so its lefty friendly which is nice for all my lefty friends out there.
So there we have it my thoughts on the ARX160, my first airsoft gun. I chose this one over the many M4 options because of all the M4s I've seen locally and I thought it might be nice to field something different. This has all the options I was looking for and I didn't see anyone using this model so I thought I would go for it and be the local guinea pig :P
Pros:
Newbie friendly
Sturdy build, doesn't feel cheap
Excellent accuracy
Shoots right at 350-ish for CQB
Has a lot of rail-estate for options
Adjustable and foldable stock
Cons:
Bottom rail doesn't seem to be the same as the top and side rails (Unconfirmed) so it might need a special bottom grip. Will update as soon as i can confirm.
