CQB Spotlight Field Spotlight Sniper Spotlight
(Discontinued) King Arms SVD Dragunov Sniper (No Scope) $500.00
by D. SHABASHVILI Date Added: Thursday 13 April, 2006
Basically, I just got this SVD and it wasn't quite what I expected, so I decided to write a short review.

A two-sentence version:
The gun is crudely made, there are some design flaws, and it shouldn't cost more than a TM AEG. However, it is the cheapest SVD, so if you wanna play a Russian sniper, it's still the best option.

A more precise list of pros and cons:
Pros -
The gun really is all wood and metal. And the metal/wood are quite sturdy, I have no doubths about its reliability.
Internally and externally the gun is quite simple. I feel like I could easily fix it if I needed to.
The gun definitely has at least the announced fps of 450, maybe more. However, no accuracy tests yet.
Contrary to one review I read, it did mount POSP 4*24 M scope w/o any problems. However, it looks to me like the scope didn't mount very straight; more on that after accuracy tests.
Looks like an SVD - with a couple of important exceptions.

Cons -
They have pretty damn large tolerances for manufacturing this gun!
There is a 1-2 mm gap (which you can actually see thru) between the pistol grip part of the stock and the gun body.
The holes in the foregrip aren't very even and have splinters around the edges.
The finish on the wood is either thin or absent in hard-to-reach places.
The receiver cover lock isn't too tight, so it could easily flip open and the receiver cover falls off during a skirmish.
There's also a gap between safety and receiver cover even when the safety is engaged.

Now when the safety isn't engaged, there's just a hole there thru which you can see the spring mechanism (and thru which sand and such could easily get into the gun). This seriously detracts from the otherwise realistic appearance of the gun.

The mags are pretty damn cheap (I mean, they're freakin expensive at like 30$, but they're no better than 8$ plastic mags). They're plastic, jam a bit, don't go in or out of the gun smoothly etc. Also, due to the gun design, the gun doesn't feed the last 3-4 bb's, so the actual "mag capacity" is around 20. The only good thing I'd like to say about them is that they look good in the gun.

Overall, I don't regret spending my money on this gun (not like I had a choice anyway, I'm doing a Russian Army impression), but I do wish AtoZ charged like 300 for it, which is what it should cost.

Oh yes, and Airsoft GI does have the best service and best price. The gun arrived sooner than I expected and 500 for a 520 gun+30 mag+free shipping is pretty damn awesome.

Best wishes,
