Product Information:
I must say this is a very nice rifle. It has a nice feel right out of the box, much nicer in comparison to any JG or CYMA VFC clone AK. It performs well out of the box, but could use a bit of help in the accuracy department. That there is a little summary for those time conscious schedule-enslaved Americans. Now I'll get into a bit more depth regarding the quality of this rifle.

I was rather disappointed with the packaging of the weapon. Perhaps other companies (most notably JG) have spoiled me with the high quality closed-cell foams and form fitted packaging. This rifle comes in a shabby little box with exceptionally flakey white styrofoam. The only time I've seen packaging worse was on my G&G F2000, which used poorly formed plastic that just crumbled to pieces inside of a paper-thin cardboard box.The box is also quite small, and had plenty of wiggle room inside the 7 foot long box GI decided to ship it in. Fortunately nothing was damaged and all I was expecting were included in the package.

The first thing I noticed was the notorious VFC clone sight cant. The whole barrel was canted actually, both the front sight and the gas block were canted about 25 degrees to the left, which is quite bad. My JG AK had the same issue, however it was not as off as this rifle was, at just 10 or 15 degrees. This can be easily corrected with a punch and a hammer. Just punch the pins out, rotate and hold the pieces at the correct angle, and carefully punch the pins back in.

Once that minor issue is corrected, the rifle feels great. The paint finish is excellent, I prefer it to the new CED coating JG is using on their VFC clones. The finish most closely resembles a manganese phosphating, it's gritty, black, and relatively flat, as well as incredibly hard wearing. After several outings to the field (and a loan out to a newbie player) I can observe hardly any wear, even in high friction spots such as the selector switch grooves and the stock hinges. There are a few steel pieces that aren't coated, but are instead chemically finished: the gas block, rear sight block, front sight block, gas tube retainer, and the dust cover button. Everything on the outside of the gun IS steel aside from the outer barrel, a machined aluminium piece. The finish on the barrel is not the same as on the rest of the rifle, it is a cheaper paint or very cheap anodization that is easily scratched.

The wood is very nice, however the finish that comes on it is not that nice. The color is excellent, however the varnish chips very easily and just ends up making the rifle ugly. I immediately stripped the finish and used Minwax stain and some linseed oil to make the hand-guards resemble a Polish underfolder. The lamination of the wood is well done and they are remarkably solid and absorbant in regards to staining. The pistol grip is a decent plastic, albeit just a textured abs plastic. Personally I like it, however it may not suit your taste.

There are a few critical pieces on this rifle that are NOT steel. The actual locking mechanism in the stock is cast alloy, likely zinc based. Same goes for the other side of the stock. It may be tempting to tighten the stock by tightening down the screw on the right side of the gun on the stock hinge that resembles the selector switch screw, but I guarantee you will break the piece it screws into and will end up with pieces falling off. If you want to tighten the stock you need to unscrew that piece, which will allow you to pull off a cover piece and a ring will be exposed. A grub screw is present on the outer rim of the ring and must be loosened in order to rotate the ring. Once you have tightened the ring, tighten the grub screw back down and replace the cover piece. Same goes for the opposite side (left side) except you just unscrew the outer piece with the sling mount.

As far as internals and performance, there is nothing exceptional about it worth mentioning. Dboys internals are decent. They are not superb quality. They are not guaranteed to last you years. They will, however, work for a decent amount of time. If you do have some spare cash around to upgrade right out of the box, I recommend you purchase a new bucking, possibly a new barrel, or a new motor. These three pieces are the worst on the rifle. The bucking is well known to be weak and cause inaccuracy. The barrel is just plain brass, with mediocre crowning and the potential to oxidize and then erode with use. The motor, while functional, is low quality and will not take to most upgrades well. You can expect, out of the box, to be hitting man-sized targets with ease up to about 140 feet or so. Sure you can reach out to 180 feet or so, but you will do so inaccurately, with spreads of several feet.

For the price, this gun is quite nice. You get very nice externals that abash any other weapon within this general price range as well as decent internals that will last you a good while. Nothing beats the metallic vibrations that can be felt through a weapon as solid as this with the metal content this one has. If you're an externals kind of person, and you're in the market for an AK, I cannot recommend this rifle enough.

Pros:
Relatively inexpensive
Mainly steel parts
Solid construction
Decent performance
Excellent metal finish
Laminated wood
Nice sling included
Plenty of battery space

Cons:
Barrel cant
poor packaging
A few cast alloy parts
Mediocre accuracy
Price just went up slightly
