For: (Discontinued) HSS Knee Pads (ACU)
Product Information:
I bought these after i banged my knees up pretty bad in a construction site kind of field. I was sick of tearing holes in my pants from kneeling or crawling.

I had tried cheap kneepads that came with some roller skates that i had back when i was about 5 years old, and they slid all over and cut into my legs. really, not a good choice.

So i went looking. I originally planned to buy the tan ones as i really dont care for ACU, but since ASGI hasn't had the sense to put them back into stock, I simply purchased these.

Pros:
Actually, lets start with the bad points first, and leave the good points until later and leave a good impression on you.

First off, if you havent worn kneepads before, you are in for a rude awakening. they look cool on SWAT guys and guys in video games, but when your playing style involves sprinting and frolicking all over the field and trying to minimize bulk, they really are annoying at first.

When i got them, the UPS guy showed up about 30 seconds before i had to go out to dinner, so i had enough time to try them on and get a rough idea of how they were before i had to go, and those few seconds left me pissed all through dinner.

In the pictures, they look smooth, light and small. They are actually much bigger than the pictures indicate. they also have a black mesh-like interior that really makes them hot. Worst of all, behind the actual plastic pad on the front, the rivets show a small dot of white, that is the large pad of styrofoam inside the pad, and when i first put on the pad, it felt like i had lyme disease all over, it felt huge and awful. but when i came home, i found that you can remove them from the inside of the pad and they feel MUCH nicer, though provide less padding and protection.

They kind of dig into your leg, and the plastic on the front of the pad is a lot cheaper feeling and much rougher than the pictures indicate.

Once on, they are clunky. the rub in the middile when i run, the actual process of putting them on involves lots of fine adjustments to them to make them fit right, and kneeling and really bending your legs is painful because the straps cut in.

Once they are on, and you are pretty sure one isnt or both arent upside down you kind of get to like them a bit more, but in 90 degree humid rhode island heat, idk if i will be wearing them until october.

Cons:
now for the Pros, they really arent all that bad. I removed the styrofoam,so they are much less bulky and dont really rub toghether when i walk or run, however the sensation of the top of the pad rubbing against the top of your kneecap when you re-straighten your leg is alluding to the feeling of the pad sliding off your leg. HOWEVER, once you finally manage to get them on, and get over the look of what they have done to your pants (these made my multicam pants puff out like jodpuhrs at the top and skinny at the bottom where they were tucked into my combat boots.

just strap them on and forget how you look, because your knees will feel better, (though sweatier) and you can tuck stuff into them. (i found that small, light spring pistols fit very well between the lower strap and your leg and witht he hammer section tucked under the ACU cloth, it is secure, but a wrench to the rear and a yank upwards, the pistol comes right into your hands. A nice hiding place for last ditch weapons and maps and stuff.

I give these a 4.5, they are alright but they are a lot less than the picture makes them look.

just make sure they are on the right way up otherwise they dont adjust very well.

good luck. i reccomend these, pricy but they dont fall off when you run.
