First off, Sorbothane is a shock absorbent, and when used on a cylinder head, it absorbs the shock of the piston head making it much less likely that the gearbox will crack at the front. Secondly, the added thickness of the Sorbo pad helps correct the angle of engagement which improves the life of the piston.
