Apex R5 M12 M4 Carbine AEG Airsoft Rifle (Black)
[P12B00][17829 / ACE012B]New to airsoft? Here are some safety tips for airsoft guns that we recommend following.
APEX AIRSOFT: ALWAYS PREDATOR, NEVER PREY.
In the natural world, apex predators ( also known as alpha, super, or top predators ) are predators with few to no predators of their own, residing at the top of their food chain. Apex Airsoft Guns embody this spirit when it comes to providing you with the best possible out-of-the-box airsoft electric gun. Apex has taken decades of airsoft designing, manufacturing, and playing experience to bring to the airsoft player a brand of airsoft guns unmatched by anything else on the market in terms of features and price. No fancy gimmicks, no unproven technologies, no window dressing. These airsoft guns are built with function in mind, using proven, off-the-shelf technologies to maximize durability and quality, while minimizing the price. The R-Series is the next evolution in Apex's mission to bring you a feature packed AEG at a surprisingly good price. The R-Series is centered on a new aggressive receiver design, one that instantly differentiates the Apex brand from the multitudes of M4 clones on the market. The R-series receiver combines practical function with updated combat rifle styling. All the controls are fully ambidextrous making this easy to use for both left and right handed shooters. Internally, the R-series features a 6.03mm tightbore barrel and metal rotary hop up unit, steel high torque gears, and high torque motor for increased reliability and performance. Like all Apex M4's the R5 features a quick change spring gearbox. The battery for the R5 is housed in the stock and can accept a multitude of batteries. The m12 is a perfect rifle for those who are looking to do close quarters to mid range gameplay.Specifications:

Tech's Opinion:
"The Apex Guns have pretty much the exact same internals as CA LWRC guns. The 9mm Bearings are simply 8mm's with a larger outer race. The inner barrel looks to be of good quality (steel). The piston head, cylinder head, & cylinder are of the bore-up style. Compression is good from these parts. The hopup is the metal version of the new gen VFC. This gun also has the same design blowback mechbox as Classic Army & APS. There are some minor flaws with the design choices, such as the air nozzle compression and the mechbox durability, but for the price range its a decent choice."

I got this gun just before Christmas, opened it on Christmas as a little present to myself. The gun looked and felt sturdy, and pretty high quality for the price. There were two things wrong with it though; the charging handle would get stuck in the back position and would have to be forcefully pushed foward, and there was a missing pin just above the trigger. I emailed 6mm gunworks (the people behind Apex) to tell them the problem. I explained my problem and they immediately sent me a call tag to send the gun back so they could repair it for free. I sent it out, and it came back to me in about 8 days. The gun came back with charging handle and the pin were both fixed. I took it outside and put about 80 rounds through the gun. After those 80 rounds the gun would only shoot burst of 2 to 5 bbs per trigger pull in semi auto, and full auto was still normal. So again I emailed Apex explaining this new problem to them. They asked a bunch of questions including what kind of battery I used. I told them the type of battery (7.4v 30c Lipo), and they responded saying " It actually is very good for us to know as we have been finding that with high discharge rate Lipo batteries (over 15C), rapid semi auto fire is causing arcing in the trigger switch, which then warps the plastic around the trigger switch housing. The trigger switch then goes out of alignment, and the gun prematurely fires in semi-auto mode, and the cutoff lever does not work until the trigger is pulled past a certain point. This is why you are experiencing bursts in semi-auto.
This problem does not occur with 15C batteries or with any type of Nimh battery." (6mm Gunworks). In the same email as the quote in the last sentence, they sent another call tag so the could repair everything. But, instead of just sending it back, I asked them if they carried any mosfet systems. Long story short; they were supposed to fix the trigger switch, and install the mosfet for free. Obviously I had to pay for the mosfet, but then I could use any battery I want, with also having a 90 day warrantee for the mosfet install. For the record they carry all Gate mosfets and that is the brand of mosfet going into my gun. So I sent the gun back about a week ago. I just got this email today, "Im pleased to tell you the gun is done and is performing beautifully.
We installed the MERF 3.2 as well as the following new parts: wire cut steel spur gear, 65 degree hop bucking, and 6.03 inner barrel.
The latter three parts are product improvement parts that we are installing in older guns as we identify potential problem areas in our products. These represent the latest. Your gun is on the border between our older, problem guns and the newer production batches, so to be safe we put in those parts." (6mm Gunworks). So not only are they standing behind their guns, but they are doing what they can to improve possible faults in the guns. I cant say enough about how amazing the customer service is with Apex guns. I could've gone without all of the problems with the gun, but they really did make it as painless as they possibly could. All in all; the gun was great when it worked, and the customer service was far beyond anything else I have seen in the airsoft world. I will definitely be ordering from Apex again.
Pros:
-aluminum body is extremely light
-perfect length for field and cqb situations (accurate without a barrel the length of Canada)
-completely ambidextrous.
-quick change spring system is awesome
-motor is quite impressive for a stock gun
-very accurate with stock hop-up
-crisp trigger pull
-top rail is enormous
-fits a lot of different mag brands
-iron sights are perfect, just needed a bit of tightening
-really good rate of fire for a torque gear set
-best "out-of-box" gun I have seen
-THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS IMPECCABLE
Cons:
-mag is ok but not the best
-little bit of wobble between the upper and lower receiver, but can be fixed easily with an o-ring or a thin washer
-all the problems I've had with the gun, but to my understanding they are starting to fix the inherent problems of the gun
-motor gets a little warm on a lipo
-assuming they are starting to get the quality control back up with these guns, this gun is definitely worth it
I'm gonna keep this short. I would not suggest buying this gun, at all. Save your money. The only major pro is the gun's appearance. Externally, the gun looks great, but performance wise, it is garbage. APEX really emphasized how great their internals were, and how the gun is fully upgraded right out of the box, but when the sector gear is stripped on the second use, you know something is wrong. It's not worth it.
Pros:
Looks great externally.
Somewhat accurate.
That's about it.
Cons:
Double feeds most mags.
High cap that comes with the gun is garbage.
Wobble in stock, and between the upper and lower receiver, and in the trigger guard.
Terrible gears and piston (stripped the sector gear on the second use)
Most mags don't feed well or at all.
With the amount of money that you would pay to buy and then later repair the gun, you could just afford something far better.
I ordered this gun a couple months ago and played a game with this gun for first time and about an hour into the game it stopped working. I sent it back to the manufacture and then I found out that the spur gear was striped. Apex was nice and put a few other parts in it to reinforce it a bit more. Then I got it back and it lasted about two games then the gun wouldn't shoot on every trigger pull now it will not shoot at all. I would not recommend this gun.
Pros:
-Full metal
-nice looking rail
-nice range ( when it works)
-nice mag
Cons:
-broke twice
-doesn't seem to with stand a lipo when in the manual it tells you to use one
-hop up is a little loose
-additional rail segments are expensive
