New to airsoft? Here are some safety tips for airsoft guns that we recommend following.

The SOCOM Gear Full Metal Doublestar 1911 is essentially a modernized version of the 1911 model that we have come to know and love. It stays true to the widely-known design with the slender, single-stack magazine, beaver tail safety, and removable grip panels, but boasts some unique features that set it apart as well. The SOCOM Gear Doublestar features a railed lower frame that is perfect for the addition of flashlights or lasers, as well as aggressive slide serrations, specially textured grip panels to ensure a solid grip on the weapon at all times, and aggressive looking Doublestar trademarks and emblems. Overall, this is a very impressive pistol that is sure to impress novice players and high end collectors alike.

Product Information:
After "fixing" one for a friend of mine and testing it out, I saw right away how accurate and powerful it was and I knew I had to have one. It has a great weight and feel to it and has great recoil. (Much better than that of my WE Hi Capa 5.1) So far, I've put about 6 mags through it with no problems. After adjusting the hop up and sights, I was able to hit a head sized target from 70 feet every time. And to add to it even more, the great folks here at Airsoft GI are offering it up for $21 off. Get the gun, it's great.

Pros:
Great weight and feel to it
Accurate at 70ft. and more.
Shoots hard.
Great on gas (got 1 and a half mags out of a few fills.)
Looks great, awesome trademarks

Cons:
There's a little bit of space between the slide and body which is an easy fix.

Product Information:
The Doublestar 1911 has been my sidearm for the past several years. I obtained mine from a store in Arizona, and it has served me well ever since. As shown here on AirsoftGI, my 1911 is the basic model Doublestar. Notice that it lacks a threaded outer barrel, with a smooth, rounded plastic tip. The tip is Blaze Orange, as required by most states. It should be noted that other versions of the Doublestar, advertised by SOCOM Gear, are released with custom grips, and a threaded barrrel to accept a packaged compensator (see the Madbull "Punisher" compensator for the 1911, also sold on this website). I can't say i've ever chrono'd this firearm, but it has always performed reliably, with any failures to feed and fire being easily assessed, diagnosed, and rectified mid-engagement. The only negative aspect that I am STILL trying to workaround is the fact that there is no threading on the barrel for a compensator.

Pros:
*Dependable and easy to maintain - malfunctions are simple to assess and rectify, even during a skirmish.
*Magazines are easy to order, especially through this site.
*Front and Rear slide serrations for easy of manipulation.
*Underbarrel accessory rail - available on all 3 production models advertised by SOCOM Gear,
*Skeleton Hammer.
*Beaver-tail hammer guard and grip safety.
*Standard Novak grips are comfortable and combine with the above hammer guard and grip safety prevent the weapon from slipping in your hands due to sweat, rain, or other factors.
*Realistic blowback and slide motion.
*Crisp trigger.
*Three-dot sights.

Cons:
*Barrel is not threaded - Anyone like myself looking to add a compensator is out of luck unless they change the barrel out (I myself can't seem to find a threaded outer barrel for this sidearm) OR purchase one of the two variants advertised by SOCOM Gear instead.
*Green gas in magazines are affected by weather, causing some concerns during the winter rime or during Arizona's monsoon season. You could always risk it though, and rectify the matter by exposing the magazine to, say, a lighter - just dont blame me when the magazine explodes in your hand.
*Three-dot sights do not feature tritium, making them less useful during night time operations. The sights are removable, but I myself don't like the thought of having to purchase, install, and calibrate handgun sights. This is still partially mitigated by the underbarrel rail, as you can just attach a flashlight or laser aiming module.

Product Information:
My first pistol, and one that's pretty decent. The weight seems to be on a 1:1 ratio with the real-steel 1911, and all the Doublestar trademarks and engravings are present from the real version as well. The tolerances on the slide could be a bit tighter, and the overtravel on the trigger is really big with no way to adjust it. I tried detail stripping to look for an overtravel adjustment screw but didn't find one.

The orange tip that came with mine was metal, I assume machines aluminum. I thought it was glued on at first, but it turns out it was just screwed onto the barrel very tightly. The orange tip is a male thread with the barrel's female thread accepting it, so no free threaded barrel once the orange tip comes off. Also, I'm pretty sure that the gun shoots a bit high from where the sights are aligned right out of the box. This is probably more easily remedied by messing with the hop-up rather than adjusting the sights.

I've had many failures to feed and failures to fire with this gun in all sorts of weathers and conditions to the point where I don't consider it to be fully combat reliable. The magazine lip on the stock magazine also breaks easily if you slap your mags home when the slide is locked back, which is how I was taught to reload to make sure the mag was seated properly.

Pros:
-Good weight
-Removable and replaceable orange tip
-Magazine doesn't require special gas can extender to fill up

Cons:
-Huge overtravel on trigger, a bit of a creep on it before it breaks
-Very unreliable trigger reset, seemingly made worse by cold weather
-Sights are a bit high straight out of the box
-Magazine breaks easily
-Safety easily disengaged by accident

Threaded barrel? (again)
I saw on YouTube that the DoubleStar comes with a threaded barrel, so I answered my own question, but now I read in reviews that maybe the orange tip is screwed over the threads and glued in place? Sorry for the confusion, but does it have threads or not?
